Tense situation near Education Ministry forces closure of road

A tense situation arose near the Education Ministry today forcing the closure of the road opposite the Ministry.

The tense situation arose during a protest staged by the Sri Lanka Education Administration Service Officers? Union.

The protest was against appointments given in the education sector to victims of political revenge.

Two groups of protesters confronted each other during the protest.

A Maximum Retail Price (MRP) has been imposed on several varieties of rice. The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said the MRP will be imposed from midnight tonight (Wednesday). Accordingly,?Samba will be sold at Rs 94 per kilogram, Raw Samba at Rs 94 per kilogram, Nadu at Rs 92 per kilogram and Raw rice at Rs 89 per kilogram.

Three soldiers test positive for coronavirus

Three Army officers have tested positive for COVID-19 in Hatton. Army sources told Colombo Gazette that the three officers had tested positive while undergoing quarantine at a quarantine centre in Pathana, Hatton. They had tested positive yesterday after being subjected to PCR tests. The sources added that the infected Army officers have been transferred to the Panagoda Military hospital for treatment.
