Sampanthan to meet Mahinda to discuss new Constitution

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and opposition leader R Sampanthan is to meet former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the process to draft a new Constitution.

TNA Parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran said that the new Constitution must have the backing off all political parties.

As a result he said that Sampanthan had talks on the new Constitution with the group of 16 who left the Government as well as others in Parliament.

Sumanthiran told the Jaffna based Thinakkural newspaper that he had brief discussions on the new Constitution with Rajapaksa and others in the joint opposition.

The TNA Parliamentarian said that Sampanthan is expected to meet Rajapaksa soon for official talks on the matter. (Colombo Gazette)
