A group of suspects arrested over the recent killing of a leopard in Kilinochchi have been ordered to be further remanded.

Ten suspects, including some who had been in remand till today, were ordered to be remanded till July 3rd by the Kilinochchi Magistrate.

Villagers in Kilinochchi had recently captured and killed a leopard after it attacked 10 people in the area.

The villagers hunted down the animal after accusing wildlife officers of failing to do their duty.

Wildlife officers had arrived at Ambalkulam in Kilinochchi to capture the animal but they had failed to locate it resulting in agitated residents deciding to look for the animal themselves.

The hunt for the leopard was captured on video and visuals showed the leopard being captured and brutally attacked and killed by the residents.

The dead animal was later dragged along the streets and displayed to the public. (Colombo Gazette)
