An organisation backed by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to file a motion in court tomorrow seeking an order against arresting Weeratunga on his return.
Nalin Nissanka, who is part of the organisation said that lawyers who are part of the organisation will appear on behalf of Weeratunga in court.
An Interpol warrant had been issued for Weeratunga’s arrest over ongoing investigations into the controversial MiG aircraft deal.
The Supreme Court had in May rejected a petition filed by Weeratunga against his arrest warrant and restrictions on his bank accounts.
Weeratunga was recently detained in Dubai but the authorities refused to hand him over to Sri Lanka.
The authorities in Dubai had arrested Weeratunga based on investigations and submissions made by the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID). (Colombo Gazette)
