Cabinet decides to remove VAT on doctors? consultation fee

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera today announced that the cabinet has decided to remove the 15% Value Added Tax (VAT) charged on doctors? consultation fee, channeling fee and professional charges with effect from July 1.

The Minister said that the decision was taken following a request put forward by the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

However, the Minister said that the VAT charged on private hospital rooms will remain as the Government feels anyone who can get admission to a private hospital can afford to pay the VAT. (Colombo Gazette)
