Gnanasara sentenced to jail for threatening Sandya

The General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), the Venerable Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who was found guilty of threatening the wife of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, Sandya Eknaligoda, has been sentenced to jail.

The Venerable Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thero was sentenced to six months in jail.

The monk was also ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 as compensation to?Sandya Eknaligoda.

The sentence was issued today by the Homagama Magistrate.

The Venerable Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thero was last month found guilty of threatening Sandya Eknaligoda.

The Venerable Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara Thero had been accused of threatening the wife of the missing journalist within the Homagama court premises in 2016.

When the case over the threat was heard last month the Homagama Magistrate found the controversial monk guilty of threatening Sandya Eknaligoda and the sentencing was fixed for today.

The BBS said that it will file an appeal against the judgment. (Colombo Gazette)
