FR petition filed by former CJ against PC Elections Act rejected

A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by former Chief Justice Sarath N Silva?against the Provincial Councils (PC) Elections (Amendment) Act was rejected by the Supreme Court today.

The petition was rejected by a majority in the three-member bench.

Sarath N Silva filed the petition at the Supreme Court against the Provincial Council Elections Amendment Act in September last year.

The?Provincial Council Elections Amendment Act was passed by Parliament last year.

However local civil society had raised concerns over?the passage of the Act. (Colombo Gazette)

NTJ Colombo District Organizer remanded

The Colombo District Organizer of the National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) Mohamed Farouk Mohamed Fawaz, was today ordered by court to be remanded until the 7th of May. Business community slams negligence of Government machinery
