Sri Lanka says US-North Korea leaders have set an example

Sri Lanka today said that the leaders of both the United States and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea have set an example following their meeting in Singapore today.

Minister of Integration, Reconciliation and Official Languages, Mano Ganesan said that the meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sets an example for warring sides to engage in negotiations.

“Despite all foul talks world shall salute both #trump & #kim for setting an example for talking over warring,” Ganesan tweeted.

Trump and Kim participated in a one-on-one meeting in Singapore, with translators only, followed by an expanded meeting including their top advisers.

The two leaders later signed an agreement which included an assurance by North Korea to denuclearisation.

Earlier this year Sri Lanka had urged North Korea to fully implement a UN Security Council Resolution on the nuclear weapons issue. (Colombo Gazette)
