President denies requesting UK envoy to arrest LankaeNews Editor

President Maithripala Sirisena has denied reports he requested the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, James Dauris, to arrest the Editor of the LankaeNews website, who is in London.

President’s Media Division, in a statement said the reports were false.

The President’s Media Division referred to the report that was published on the Sunday Times newspaper on Sunday 10th June.

The newspaper had reported that at a meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and British High Commissioner James Dauris, the President had requested the British envoy to take steps to deport or arrest the editor of the website.

“The said news item is incorrect and falsely reports the said meeting, and no request was made for either deportation or arrest of the editor of the claimed website or any other person,” the President’s media division said. (Colombo Gazette)
