Transport Ministry to purchase 500 buses to boost SLTB fleet

The Transport Ministry is to purchase 500 buses to boost the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) fleet.

According to the running timetable of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, 7257 buses are required to meet the demands of the passenger service.

However only 6000 buses have been operating and of this 1560 buses are more than 15 years old.

Therefore cabinet has approved a proposal by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva to purchase 400 buses with 50-54 high back seats for the urban service and 100 buses with 32-35 seats for the rural service to meet the requirements of the SLTB. (Colombo Gazette)
