Polls not due to pressure

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says the elections to the Northern Provincial Council is being held as the government feels the time is right and not owing to any outside pressure. Speaking in Kandy, the President said that as part of the democratic process in the country various elections are being held. Brothel raided in Borellasgamuwa

A brothel was raided in the Borellasgamuwa area and three women have been arrested, the police media unit said this morning. The police said that the raid was carried out based on information received by the Borellasgamuwa police. Located down Egodawatta Road, the brothel had been operating in the guise of a spa, the police said. The women are to be produced in court today while further investigations continue. Extortionists using easy cash

The police today said that there are reports of extortionists using the ‘easy cash’ mobile system to get money from their victims. A statement by police headquarters said that the extortionists threaten businessmen and individuals and demand money to be transferred either to a bank account or through the ‘easy cash’ system.
