Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa arrested

Former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has been arrested over allegations of misusing funds amounting to over Rs. 6.1 million in 2014. The former Minister’s wife was also arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). It was alleged that the Minister had obtained Rs. 6.1 million from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) in 2014 and used it for the election campaign in 2015. Female suspect commits suicide inside Maradana Police Station

A female suspect committed suicide inside a cell at the Maradana Police Station in Colombo, the Police said. The 32-year-old female had been arrested on Tuesday night and was placed in a cell. She had committed suicide on Wednesday morning inside the cell. An investigation has been launched over the incident. (Colombo Gazette)
