Heavy rain and strong winds were experienced in most parts of the country today. The Department of Meteorology said that the prevailing showery condition in the island, particularly in the south western part is expected to continue. Speaker rejects claims by JVP he is scared of some MPs

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today rejected claims by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) that he is scared of some members of Parliament. The JVP made the accusation against the Speaker after he allowed Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella to clarify a response he had tabled to a question raised from him. Government distances itself from statement by Sarath Fonseka
