Sirisena and Ranil to meet today and discuss cabinet reshuffle

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe were expected to meet today to discuss the proposed cabinet reshuffle.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the new cabinet will be picked after the President and Prime Minister meet.

He also said that most senior members of the United National Party did not support another reshuffle as there was a reshuffle of UNP Ministers recently.

However he said the UNP will accept the decision taken by the President and Prime Minster. (Colombo Gazette)

Dr. Mohamed Shafi further remanded

The Kurunegala Magistrate?s Court today ordered Dr. Mohamed Shafi to be further remanded till 25 July. Dr. Shafi appeared in court today over the case where he has been accused of performing illegal sterilization surgeries and having links to terrorist activities. Dr. Shafi was presented to the Kurunegala Magistrate?s Court by the Criminal Investigations Department. The CID has already informed court there is no evidence to back the allegations against the doctor.

India alerts Sri Lanka on boats carrying drugs from Karachi

Indian security agencies had alerted Sri Lanka about two boats carrying banned drugs from the Pakistani coast city of Karachi, the WION news service reported. The two boats were intercepted by Sri Lankan Coast guard yesterday (Wednesday).
