President refuses to rule out former Ministers in new cabinet

President Maithripala Sirisena refused to rule out including former Ministers in the new cabinet.

Speaking to the BBC, the President said that he will make the final decision on the new cabinet once the coalition partners submit the final list.

Asked if former Ministers facing accusations, including those related to the treasury bond scam will be included in the new cabinet, the President said that he will need to decide only after seeing the list.

He said that the new cabinet is expected to be appointed next week.

“This will not be a cabinet reshuffle but a new cabinet,” he said.

The President said that the new cabinet will be appointed on a scientific basis. Asked how many members will be in the new cabinet, the President said that he cannot speculate on the number at this moment. (Colombo Gazette)
