Cabinet reshuffle to take place before Sinhala and Tamil New Year

President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have decided to go for a cabinet reshuffle before the transitional Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

The decision was taken following a meeting held last night.

President Maithripala Sirisena had said earlier that a committee will be appointed to recommend a new cabinet ahead of a comprehensive cabinet reshuffle.

The cabinet reshuffle comes just weeks after changes were made to some portfolios held in the cabinet by United National Party (UNP) Ministers.

The latest cabinet reshuffle will take place after some Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members voted against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament last week.

The SLFP Ministers backed a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister, a motion which was eventually defeated. (Colombo Gazette)
