EU to evaluate results of Sri Lanka’s accession to GSP+

Members ?of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA), including the Standing Rapporteur for South Asia, will visit Sri Lanka from 4 to 6 April 2018 to evaluate the first results of Sri Lanka’s accession to the GSP+ scheme and to enhance their dialogue with Sri Lanka on the remaining challenges.

The mission will comprise Jan Zahradil, the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR),?Sajjad Karim, Standing Rapporteur, European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR),?Paul Rubig, European People’s Party (EPP),?David Martin. Hirunika Premachandra sentenced to 3 years in jail

Former Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra has been sentenced to three years in jail over the alleged abduction of a youth in 2015. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member has been sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.
