UNP forced to postpone signing deal for new alliance

The United National Party (UNP) has been forced to postpone an event which was scheduled to be held tomorrow where an agreement was to be signed between the UNP and its alliance members. The UNP was to launch its new alliance tomorrow and sign the agreement with the alliance members. However, some parties including the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and the Tamil Progressive Alliance have refused to sign the agreement until some conditions are met.

Three policemen injured following clash in Wellawatte

Three policemen were injured following a clash in Wellawatte last night, the Police media unit said. The Police said that six people were injured in the clash including three policemen. A clash broke out between two groups at a housing complex in Wellawatte. The Police had been deployed to control the situation and three policemen sustained injured. The Special Task Force was later deployed to provide security and one suspect was arrested.

Southern Province Governor steps down

Southern Province Governor Keerthi Tennekoon has handed over his resignation to President Maithripala Sirisena. His resignation follows the resignation of the Governor of the Central Province, President?s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne and the Governor of the Uva Province Marshall Perera.
