UNP claims it had successful meeting with the President

The United National Party (UNP) claims it had a successful meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena with regards to the proposed no-confidence motion on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

UNP Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera said that a group of UNP MPs met the President and had a successful discussion.

Perera noted that it was the UNP which helped President Maithripala Sirisena to come to power and so he has a good relationship with the party.

The MP also said that any UNP member who backs the no-confidence motion at the vote on April 4 will be removed from the party.

He said the UNP has taken a clear decision that it will vote against the no-confidence motion and so no UNP member can do otherwise. (Colombo Gazette)
