Kids pelted stones at train

Police investigations have found that a group of 11 year old children had pelted stones at a train operating between Colombo and Kandy on Tuesday. The police said that four passengers in the train were injured after the stones had hit them while the train was moving past Rambukana. S.M Ranjith appointed CM

S.M Ranjith was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the North Central province before President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning. Former Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake had earlier publicly stated that he should be given the post and not S.M.Ranjith who is a brother of former Minister S.M.Chandrasena. Meanwhile Mahipala Herath was today sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa province.

Five killed in boat tragedy

Five people were killed when the boat they were travelling in capsized in Beruwala this evening, the police said. The boat was taking the group to visit the Beruwala lighthouse when tragedy struck. The police said that 11 people were on board the boat when it was hit by a strong wave. Witnesses managed to rescue the rest of the people on the boat after it capsized. Further investigations are underway.
