Army Commander and Wigneswaran discuss land and other issues

Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake and Northern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran discussed the land issue in the North at a meeting today.

The meeting between Wigneswaran and Senanayake took place at the Chief Minister’s Office in Nallur, Jaffna.

Senanayake said that the release of more lands of civilians would be looked into in due course in line with the Government’s policy.

He had also highlighted the potential available for civil military cooperation in the North, the Army media unit said.

The Commander also offered his assistance to resolve issues pertaining to the fishing community in a more practical and friendly manner if such issues are referred to the required military formations.

Senanayake also had an audience with His Eminence Rev. Justin Bernard Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna at his vicarage in Jaffna.

During the cordial meeting many matters of relevance to the rehabilitation of ex-combatants, release of more and more civil lands under the five year land release policy and further strengthening of reconciliation among all ethnicities and general developments of relevant concern.

Senanayake also paid a visit to the Venerable Meegahajandure Siriwimala Thero, Chief incumbent of the Jaffna Sri Naga Viharaya at the Sri Naga Viharaya premises in Jaffna.

Major General Roshan Seneviratne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division was also present at the meetings. (Colombo Gazette)
