JHU denies any links with Kandy communal riots

The Jathika Hela Urumaya today denied any links with the communal riots in Kandy and has urged the Police to properly investigate and reveal the identity of those who instigated the violence.

JHU leader and Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that the JHU has been accused of being behind the violence by the joint opposition led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Ranawaka said that he had asked the Police to make public details regarding the ongoing investigations into the violence.

He also said that it was clear from the investigations that some groups linked to the Rajapaksas were behind the violence.

Ranawaka said that the Police investigations have not revealed any links between the JHU and the attacks on the Muslims in Kandy. (Colombo Gazette)

Probe launched into death of youth in Police custody

A special investigation has been launched into the suspicious death of a 21-year-old youth while in the custody of the Pugoda Police. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that the male suspect was arrested on Sunday (11) over drug related offences. He was admitted to the Ragama hospital due to a sudden illness and had died while receiving treatment. Two villages in Mannar which were isolated reopened

Two villages in Mannar which were isolated to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, have been reopened. Pallithottam and Periyakadai had been closed off yesterday (Sunday). Police spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana said that the two villages had been isolated following the detection of a coronavirus patient at the Mannar Bishop?s house. A construction worker at the Bishop?s house had?tested positive for the coronavirus?on Friday.?(Colombo Gazette)
