Mali President appreciates role played by Sri Lankan troops

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Nigeria Thambirajah Raveenthiran, concurrently accredited as Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Mali as well, presented his Credentials to Ibrahim Boubacar Keita the President of Mali in a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace at Bamako in Mali.

During an audience with the President after the presentation of Credentials the Sri Lankan envoy briefed the President on all significant developments in Sri Lanka.

The Ambassador also conveyed the greetings from the President of Sri Lanka to the President of Mali. The President of Mali had requested the Sri Lankan envoy to convey his personal well wishes to his Sri Lankan counterpart.

The Sri Lankan Ambassador thanked the President of for all the unequivocal support extended to Sri Lanka in all international fora in the past.

The President appreciated the pivotal role Sri Lankan armed forces play as part of United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the north of Mali (MINUSMA) in stabilizing the country.

The President expressed great satisfaction on the status of existing bilateral relations between the two countries and indicated his desire to elevate it to even a higher level in the future for the benefits of both countries.

This is the first time a Sri Lankan Ambassador presented Credentials in Mali after Sri Lanka established formal diplomatic relations with the West African state of Mali in 2012. (Colombo Gazette)
