Final election results not expected on November 17

The final results of the Presidential election is not expected on November 17, the National Elections Commission said today. Final results of the election is usually released by the following day. However, Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said that since the ballot papers are long this time around with 35 candidates contesting the Presidential election, the final results may get delayed. The ballot paper being used for the Presidential election next month is over 2 feet long.

Suspects arrested over Easter Sunday attacks further remanded

The Kalmunai Magistrate today ordered 13 suspects arrested over the Easter Sunday attacks to be further remanded. The suspects were produced before court today under tight Police security. The Magistrate ordered that the suspects be further remanded until 30 October. The suspects had been arrested in parts of the East following the Easter Sunday attacks.

NEC condemns use of Army Chief’s comment in advertisement
