President visits UN office to express sympathies over Una’s death

President Maithripla Sirisena visited the UN office in Colombo today to express his heartfelt condolences over the death of UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Sri Lanka, Ms. Una McCauley.

“She was a deeply committed professional with such dedication, understanding, and empathy,” the UN office in Colombo quoted the President as telling the mother of the late Una McCauley at the UN office.

Earlier, in a special message of condolence to the UN Secretary General António Guterres, the President stated that Ms.Una MaCauley was a talented professional who served in Sri Lanka with a thorough understanding regarding the vision of the UN.

The President also recalled that she had worked hard with a great determination, dedication and humanity to promote peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka as well as to achieve the social and economic progress of the country and during her six year tenure in Sri Lanka she was able to win the honour and confidence of all she worked with.

The demise of Ms.Una McCauley for Sri Lanka is a loss of close relation who was a true humanitarian personality, the President stated. (Colombo Gazette)
