Key Ministries change hands in much anticipated cabinet reshuffle

Several key Ministries changed hands in the much anticipated cabinet reshuffle which took place today.

The cabinet reshuffle took place at the Presidential Secretariat today and included changes only in members of the United National Party (UNP).

A cabinet reshuffle of members of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is set to take place in two weeks.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed the new Minister of Law and Order taking over from former Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake.

Sagala Ratnayake was appointed as the Minister of Youth Affairs and Southern Development.

Lakshman Kiriella was appointed as the new Minister of Public Enterprises and Kandy Development while Kabir Hashim was appointed Minister of Higher Education and Highways.

Harin Fernando was appointed Minister of Digital Infrastructure and Foreign Employment.

Ravindra Samaraweera was appointed the new Minister of Wildlife and Sustainable Development replacing senior UNP member Gamini Jayawickrama Perera.

Meanwhile, Piyasena Gamage was appointed the State Minister of Youth Affairs and Southern Development, Ajith P Perera – State Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation and Drug Prevention and Harsha de Silva the State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs.

J.C. Alawathuwala was appointed the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

Expressing his views at this event, the President said that in future subject areas of some Ministries will be changed and will come under the purview of more appropriate institutions.

He also said that necessary changes will be made in State institutions and Corporations in the future to enhance efficiency.

President Sirisena said that the future plans of the government will be implemented successfully for the betterment of the public. (Colombo Gazette)
