Case against Basil on misappropriating funds fixed for June

A case filed against former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa over the alleged?misappropriation of funds has been set for June.

Accordingly the the case where Rajapaksa and the former Director General of the Divi Neguma Department Kithsiri Ranawaka were accused of misappropriating Rs.35.5 million of funds belonging to the Divi Neguma Department, has been fixed for 04 June 2018.

The alleged?misappropriation of funds had taken place when Mahinda Rajapaksa was President and?Basil Rajapaksa was a cabinet Minister.?(Colombo Gazette)

War declared on dengue

Duminda back in Parliament

Parliamentarian Duminda Silva returned to Parliament today, for the first time since the Mulleriyawa shooting incident in 2011 in which Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra was killed. Silva, who was also injured in the incident, was in April released on bail over the case. He was the main suspect in the shooting incident. Navy arrests 88 asylum seekers

The navy arrested 88 would-be asylum seekers off the Batticaloa seas early this morning. Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasooriya said that the boat was believed to be heading to Australia when it was stopped by navy patrol boats. Among those on the boat are women and children, the navy said. The asylum boat is now being brought to Trincomalee where the asylum seekers will be handed over to the police. (Colombo Gazette)
