Foreign Ministry denies claims Sri Lanka’s envoy to UK resigned

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today denied claims that Sri Lanka?s High Commissioner to the UK, Mrs Amari Wijewardene had resigned.

The Foreign Ministry said that High Commissioner Wijewardene will conclude her contract on her own volition by 31 March 2018.

“The reports being circulated in the media attributed to the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stating that Sri Lanka?s High Commissioner to the UK, Mrs. Amari Wijewardene, has resigned, are incorrect.?High Commissioner Wijewardene will conclude her contract on her own volition by 31 March 2018,” the Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement.

Meanwhile, the Defense Attach? to the Sri Lanka High Commission in London, Brigadier Priyanka Fernando, returned to Sri Lanka today.

Brigadier?Priyanka Fernando was seen gesticulating to slit throats of a group of pro-LTTE?demonstrators opposite the High Commission office in?London?on February 4 when the embassy was celebrating the 70th?independence day.

He was immediately suspended from work following a video, which showed him behaving in an offensive manner.

However, he was later allowed to resume duties on a presidential directive. (Colombo Gazette)

Thirty-five Police officers promoted as SSPs

Thirty-five Police officers have been promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), the Police media unit said. The Police media unit said that the 35 Police officers promoted currently hold the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP). Two Sri Lankans who returned from Dubai contract COVID-19

Two Sri Lankans who returned from Dubai have contracted the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Government information department said today.
