SLFP decides to remain in the Government

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided to remain in the Government and push for changes.

SLFP Treasurer S.B. Dissanayake, speaking to reporters after a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena today, said that the priority of the SLFP at this moment is not to form its own Government.

He said the SLFP has decided it will remain with the President and push for key changes in the Government.

Meanwhile, SLFP member and Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala told Parliament today that the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had earlier decided to leave the unity Government.

Sumathipala said that President Maithripala Sirisena was earlier asked for permission to leave the unity Government.

However he said it has now been decided to continue with the unity Government until President Maithripala Sirisena obtains the opinion of the Supreme Court on matters related to the unity Government. (Colombo Gazette)
