Committee to decide on future of unity Government

A committee is to be appointed to decide on the future of the unity Government, Minister and United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa said.

He said the decision was taken following a meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP Ministers late this evening.

“Several matters were discussed and the final decision was that a committee will be appointed tomorrow to decide on the best way forward,” he said.

The UNP has been calling for a UNP-led Government to be formed following the Local Government (LG) elections while the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is divided on the proposal.

The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) meanwhile had said it will not support a Government led by Wickremesinghe. (Colombo Gazette)

Narammala Pradeshiya Sabha Deputy Chairman arrested

The Narammala Pradeshiya Sabha Deputy Chairman Manjula Polgampola was arrested over an an assault on a Police officer. The policeman has been admitted to hospital following the incident. The Narammala Pradeshiya Sabha Deputy Chairman was produced before a Magistrate and remanded till July 3rd.

UNP MP’s son assaults Ministerial Security Division officer

United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Shantha Sisira Kumara Abeysekara’s son has been accused of assaulting a Ministerial Security Division (MSD) officer. The Police said that the MSD officer was admitted to hospital following the incident. The assault had reportedly taken place at the residence of the MP in Chilaw. Investigations are underway.
