UNP accepts loss, party to decide on next course of action

The United National Party (UNP) today accepted it had suffered an overall defeat at the Local Government (LG) elections and will now decide the next course of action.

UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim said that the UNP accepts the verdict given by the voters.

He said that the verdict is also seen as a warning to the UNP.

Hashim said that the UNP will learn from the outcome of the Local Government elections and make appropriate changes.

Meanwhile, UNP Ministers met party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today and discussed the outcome of the election. (Colombo Gazette)

Residents in Maha Induruwa protest over drinking water

Residents in Nelum Pokunagama in Maha Induruwa staged a protest today over a drinking water issue. The residents blocked the Colombo-Galle main road and obstructed vehicular movement during the protest. The area residents claimed that despite several appeals their drinking water issue had not been resolved. The protesters later dispersed after the Police assured them that they will discuss with the relevant authorities and provide a solution soon.
