Accident in Pollonaruwa injures 7

An accident in Pollonaruwa this morning injured 7 people, the police media unit said. The police said that a trailer fixed to a tractor had got dislodged and toppled injuring the passengers on the trailer. The seven people injured in the accident were admitted to the Manampitiya hospital for treatment. The police said that three of the injured were?transferred?to the Pollonaruwa hospital for further treatment. The driver of the tractor had fled following the accident.

Over 200 people evacuated in Kotmale

Over 200 people were evacuated in Kotmale following a threat of landslides. The police said that 51 families consisting of 243 people were evacuated last evening over the landslide threat. Of those evacuated, 19 families moved in with their relatives while the rest were shifted to temporary shelters in a school and another building. The Kotmale divisional secretary and Disaster Management Center (DMC) has taken steps to provide dry rations for the displaced families.

Two killed, 6 injured in Sapugaskanda

Two people killed and 6 injured following a gas leak at the Sapugaskanda oil refinery today, hospital sources said. Sources said that the gas leak had?occurred?when the workers had attempted to repair a gas pipe.
