Mahinda’s SLPP says it is heading for victory at polls

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says it is expected to win the Local Government (LG) elections based on results counted so far.

Sources close to the Rajapaksa camp said that preliminary results received had indicated that the SLPP had a clear lead.

The election is the first election to be held since the current Government came to power in 2015 defeating the administration led by Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Local Government election was seen as?an unofficial referendum on the performance of the unity Government so far.

The coalition Government led by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had been accused by some sections of society and the opposition of failing to fully meet public expectations.

Sirisena?s Sri Lanka Freedom Party and?Wickremesinghe?s United National Party contested the elections separately with the main challenge coming from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna led by Mahinda Rajapaksa. (Colombo Gazette)

Tuition classes get go ahead with limited students

Vehicle used in Moratuwa restaurant shooting incident seized

A vehicle used in a recent shooting incident targeting a restaurant in Moratuwa has been seized while the driver of the vehicle was also arrested. The Police said that the driver was arrested in Piliyandala.
