American Center in Colombo closed as US shuts down again

The American Center in Colombo has been closed as the US Government shut down for the second time this year.

The US Embassy in Colombo said that scheduled passport and visa services at the US Embassy will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits.

“The American Center in Colombo is closed until further notice,” the Embassy said.

The US Government officially shut down for the second time this year because Congress failed to meet a deadline to vote on a new budget.

The American Center in Colombo closed last month as well as the US Government shut down but later resumed normal operations.

Operations were back to normal last month after the US Government partial shutdown ended after Republicans and Democrats voted for a temporary funding bill. (Colombo Gazette)
