Number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka increases

The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka increased further late this evening. The Ministry of Health said that 13 new patients were detected today with the virus. This took the total number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka to 718 today. The Ministry of Health said that at present there are 527 active coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka. Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman arrested

The chairman of the Akuressa Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested for going on pilgrimage to Sri Pada without a curfew pass. He was arrested with three others who had also gone on the pilgrimage. They were arrested in Maskeliya today while travelling in a lorry. All forms of gatherings, including religious pilgrimages have been banned as a result of the coronavirus. (Colombo Gazette)

Schools not likely to reopen on 11 May

Schools are not likely to reopen on 11 May as the coronavirus situation is not completely under control. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that while the Government was looking at opening schools on 11 May for the second term, that may not be possible. He said this while responding to some children in a question and answer session organised by UNICEF. The Prime Minister also said that the children should not be concerned about the first term school examinations as that has been cancelled.
