Sri Lanka strongly condemns terrorist attack in Kabul

Sri Lanka strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Kabul in which over 95 people were killed.

The Foreign Ministry said that innocent civilians and those under medical treatment had been the target of the terrorist attack.

“Sri Lanka strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in Kabul targeting innocent civilians and those under medical treatment. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this terrible violence unleashed on the innocent,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne said.

A suicide bombing has killed at least 95 people and injured 158 others in the centre of Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, officials say.

Attackers drove an ambulance laden with explosives past a police checkpoint in a secure zone, home to government offices and foreign embassies.

The target is believed to have been an interior ministry building, but many people were hit while walking by.

The Taliban have said they carried out the attack, the deadliest for months. (Colombo Gazette)
