Speaker refuses to allow Ravi to make special statement

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today refused to allow former Minister Ravi Karunanayake to make a special statement in Parliament on the treasury bond issue.

Karunanayake wanted to make a statement with regards to the report by the Presidential Commission on the treasury bond scam.

However the Speaker refused to allow the Parliamentarian to make a special statement on the issue.

Jayasuriya said that Karunanayake cannot make the statement by raising it as a privileges issue.

Karunanayake however disputed the decision taken by the Speaker.

The Presidential Commission had named Karunanayake among those accused in the scam and proposed that legal action be taken against him. (Colombo Gazette)
