Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong begins Sri Lanka visit

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong began an official visit to Sri Lanka today at the invitation of President Maithripala Sirisena.

He will call on President Sirisena, who will also host an official lunch tomorrow. Lee will also meet his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe and receive a courtesy call from the leader of the opposition, R Sampanthan.

During the visit, Mr Lee will witness the signing of the Sri Lanka-Singapore free trade agreemen.

Lee is being accompanied by Mrs Lee, Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) S Iswaran?and other Government officials.

He will then visit New Delhi from Wednesday?to Friday?to attend the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit. (Colombo Gazette)

Mahinda holds talks with former Japanese Prime Minister

Rajapaksa’s office said that the talks were based on the current developments in Sri Lanka as well relations between both countries. Both sides also discussed regional and international issues. Ukraine inmate who attempted to escape from court arrested

A Ukraine prisoner who attempted to escape after being presented to court in Colombo today was arrested by the authorities. Prison guards had fired in the air when the foreigner had attempted to escape and ordered him to surrender. The prisoner was later arrested. (Colombo Gazette)
