President seeks SC advice to remain in office till 2021

President Maithripala Sirisena has reportedly sought the advise of the Supreme Court to remain in office as President till 2021.

According to reports, the President has asked the?Supreme Court if there is any?impediment to continue in the office of President for a period of 6 years from 09th January 2015, the date on which the results of the election was declared.

A document is in circulation said to be a letter sent to the BAR Association by the Supreme Court Registrar where it says the President has sought the opinion of the?Supreme Court on remaining in office for six years and is seeking the court opinion before January 14, 2018.

Following the 2015 Presidential elections President Sirisena had said that he will not look to remain in office beyond his current term which ends in 2020.

There was no confirmation from the President’s office if he was looking to remain President till 2021.?(Colombo Gazette)

Energy Minister assures fuel to CEB for a week

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila has assured the continuous supply of fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for a week. The Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Janaka Ratnayake confirmed that the Minister had given the assurance.
