Two Sri Lankans arrested in Chennai on robbery charges

The Police at the Chennai airport have arrested two Sri Lankan nationals who allegedly robbed gold jewellery from a Sri Lankan passenger after posing as Customs officers. The Police said Nadhisha Roshini, 47, flew in from Sri Lanka on Monday. The two accused, who were identified as Mohammed Najmin, 31, and Chelliah Aravindhan, 40, both Sri Lankan nationals, stopped her outside the airport and introduced themselves as Customs officers, The Hindu reported. Sri Lanka appeals to UK to lift travel advisory

Sri Lanka has appealed to the United Kingdom (UK) to lift the travel advisory on Sri Lanka. The appeal was made when Tourism Minister Harin Fernando met the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Sarah Hulton. Fernando?said that he had a successful meeting with the British High Commissioner regarding the current political climate in Sri Lanka, lifting of the travel advisory for UK travellers to Sri Lanka, the promotion of tourism and the security and safety of tourists. GR to stay in Thailand and look for asylum in another country

Deposed Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa will temporarily stay in Thailand to look for permanent asylum in another country, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said. “This is a humanitarian issue. We have made a promise that it’s a temporary stay. No [political] activities are allowed, and this will help him find a country to take refuge in,” Gen Prayut said, according to Thailand Media.
