Acting Sapugaskanda OIC transferred over incident involving JVP

The acting Officer in Charge (OIC) of Sapugaskanda has been transferred over an incident involving the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).

Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake said that a preliminary report observed improper behavior on both sides with regards to the incident.

“Acting OIC of Sapugaskanda will be Transferred out temporarily until the end of the full inquiry, with the approval of Elections Comm. Preliminary report observes improper behavior on both sides with regard to incident involving JVP PC member Asoka Ranwala,” the Minister said.

Western Provincial Council Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna member Asoka Ranwala was arrested this week over allegations he had threatened the Sapusgaskanda Crimes acting OIC.

The provincial council member however claimed he was arrested, for questioning the OIC over an assault on a youth in the area.

Minister Sagala Ratnayake later ordered the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to investigate the incident and submit a report to him. (Colombo Gazette)
