JVP Western Provincial Council member arrested

Western Provincial Council Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna member Asoka Ranwala was arrested over allegations he had threatened the Sapusgaskanda Crimes Officer In Charge (OIC).

The provincial council member however claimed he was arrested, for questioning the OIC over an assault on a youth in the area.

Meanwhile Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayake has ordered the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to investigate the incident and submit a report to him.

Postal voting for LG elections on January 25 and 26

Postal voting for the Local Government (LG) elections will take place on January 25 and 26, the?Elections Commission said today. The?Local Government elections are expected to take place on February 10. Government servants will however cast their votes on?January 25 and 26.
