Wigneswaran accused of fighting for ITAK leadership post

Northern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran has been accused of fighting for the leadership post of the Illangai Thamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK).

ITAK Secretary K. Thurairajasingam said that the main rift between Wigneswaran and ITAK is that Wigneswaran has been demanding the post of party leader.

Mavai Senathirajah was in 2014 appointed leader of ITAK after R. Sampanthan stepped down from the post.

Sampanthan continues as the leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) which includes ITAK.

Wigneswaran, has over the past couple of years, been critical of the TNA and has refused to support the alliance at elections. (Colombo Gazette)
