SriLankan Airlines Directors set to resign to assist restructuring

Six SriLankan Airlines Directors are set to resign to assist restructuring of the national airline.

The?Directors had offered to resign as the airline continues to face major losses.

President Maithripala Sirisena had said earlier that a Presidential Commission will be appointed to investigate into the alleged abuse of state money and public property involving SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka, in the first week of next January.

Minister of Public Enterprise Development Kabir Hashim had earlier this year called for strict action to be taken against a ?mafia? at SriLankan Airlines.

The Minister had also said that his hands were tied in some aspects and so he was unable to do what he wanted to do. (Colombo Gazette)

UK police shoot attacker during London Bridge stabbing incident

British police shot a man on Friday after a stabbing in the London Bridge area in the centre of the city, a security source told Reuters. A video clip on Twitter filmed from a high vantage point showed what appeared to be three police officers backing away from a man lying on the pavement. Pakistan Foreign Minister to visit Sri Lanka

Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi is to visit Sri Lanka. The Government information department said that Qureshi is scheduled to arrive in the country tomorrow (Sunday). Qureshi is leading a delegation from Pakistan on a two day visit. His visit comes just after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited India and cemented ties between India and Sri Lanka.
