Several bottles of foreign liquor seized near harbour exit

Several bottles of foreign liquor were seized near the Colombo harbour exit today.

At least 1,000 bottles which had been imported into the country violating local laws had been seized by the Special Task Force (STF).

The bottles were seized while being transported in a van.

Train rams into vehicle at railway crossing in Negombo

Hambantota harbour workers protest against China deal

Hambantota harbour workers today staged a protest in Colombo against the deal between the Government and China. The deal gives a Chinese company majority shares in the port. The Hambantota port was formally handed over to a China-led company earlier this month and Sri Lanka received its initial payment for the lease. Following the signing of an agreement, the port operations was handed over to Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) and Hambantota International Port Services (HIPS). China
