Court of Appeal issues stay order against arresting Gotabaya

The Court of Appeal today issued a stay order against arresting former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The stay order was issued till December 6 to the Police.

Earlier Rajapaksa had filed a petition in court seeking an order against his arrest.

Rajapaksa was expected to be arrested over the alleged misappropriation of over Rs. 90 million of Government funds for the construction of a memorial for his parents when he was the Defence Secretary. (Colombo Gazette)

    “A complaint has been made to the Police station Horana by a person, residing at Aramanagolla on 05th February 2013 with regard to stealing coconut from his land on 04thFebruary 2013. According to this complaint, a 13 year old school girl residing at Aramanagolla, Horana had come to the Police station with her mother. A bag with stealed 08 coconuts, and a knife had also found. investigations has carried out by Police station Horana with regard to this incident and stealing is an offence police cannot be settled ever. It is a punishable offence under section 367 of Sri Lanka Penal Code. The officer in-charge of Police has no authority to bail out a person who is arrested on this charge.”
