Parliament asked if condom vending machines are needed

The joint opposition asked Parliament today if having condom vending machines in Colombo was an urgent requirement.

Joint opposition Parliamentarian Indika Anuruddha said that while the Government had promised free Wi-Fi, it was instead giving free condoms.

“Does this go with Sri Lanka’s culture? We hear the Government may even approve LGBT rights,” Indika Anuruddha said.

He said there were reports the Government was going to install 500 condom vending machines in the country.

When questioned in Parliament, Deputy Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Development Dr. Harsha de Silva said that he was not aware of moves to have 500 condom vending machines in the country.

However he said one machine had been installed in Colombo by the Family Planning Association (FPA). (Colombo Gazette)
