Puttalam candidate distributes fake ballot papers

A candidate contesting the Parliamentary election from Puttalam has been accused of distributing fake ballot papers, election observers said. The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said that?Muslim National Alliance Puttalam candidate Sulaiman Mohamed Shifai was distributing fake ballot papers. According to CMEV the candidate was instructing voters how to vote while canvassing in Thilliadi. CMEV noted that campaigning using fake ballot papers is an election offence. (Colombo Gazet

Ravi questioned by CID on treasury bond scam

United National Party (UNP) Assistant Leader and former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake appeared before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today to be questioned on the Central Bank treasury bond scam. Earlier this month the Court of Appeal issued an interim order suspending the enforcement of warrants issued on Karunanayake and six others over the Central Bank bond scam committed in 2016. Fire damages several houses in Kelaniya

A fire broke out in Pethiyagoda Kelaniya this morning.The Police said a number of houses were damaged in the fire. The Colombo Fire Brigade said fire trucks had been dispatched to extinguish the fire. Meanwhile, a fire also broke out at a three-story electronics store in Battaramulla today.
