Soldiers suspended for rape

The government says four soldiers have been suspended from service by the army over rape allegations. Quoting Military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya, the government said that the four soldiers had allegedly raped a woman in Horowpothana. The police said that the four soldiers have already been arrested and investigations into the alleged rape was underway. It was reported that the soldiers were attached to the Anuradhapura army camp and after raping the woman they had stolen some goods

Court bans animal slaughter (Audio)

The Appeal Court today banned the slaughter of animals for religious purposes after a petition was filed by a group of Buddhist monks. The Sanga Samelanaya filed the petition seeking a ban on animal slaughter at the Muneswaram Temple in Chilaw. The Appeal Court ordered the police to prevent such animal slaughter from taking place.
