US says American companies contribute to GDP of Sri Lanka

American businesses presence in Sri Lanka have at least 30,000 or 40,000 employees across many venues and companies that are pursuing different sectors, the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Atul Keshap said.

Ambassador Keshap was speaking at the launch of the US Garment Innovation Center in Sri Lanka.

The US Ambassador noted that the American companies in Sri Lanka and the employees contribute tremendously to the GDP and to employment rates in Sri Lanka.

He says the American companies that are in Sri Lanka do highly advanced, highly technical work.

“American companies bring the best and highest standards of ethics, of design, of innovation, of technology, of responsible management, and absolutely cutting edge environmental responsibility,” he said.

He further noted that the US believes very much in the vision that the President and Prime Minister are trying to achieve for Sri Lanka.

“We believe in what your voters have expressed as their vision of a democratic, peaceful, prosperous, happy Sri Lanka.  A Sri Lanka with high quality jobs and prosperity for all of its people.  A Sri Lanka that is at the hub of the entire Indo-Pacific,” he added.

The Ambassador further said that the US Embassy in Colombo is trying to make sure that the development partnership of 60 years continues to provide high-value advice and insight for the development of the Sri Lankan economy on transparency, rule of law, expedited shipping and training.
